Please plan to attend our paper symposium on Monday August  9 2010 from 11:30AM to 1:00PM at Le Centre Sheraton in Salon A.

Sensemaking and Changemaking in an Educational Context

    885  (ODC)

This symposium brings together ten scholar practitioners who conduct research and provide consulting services in the area of human systems intervention.  Six of us are members of the faculty of the Human Systems Intervention (HSI) Masters Program offered by the Department of Applied Human Sciences at Montreal's Concordia University, and seven are graduated or current students of the program.  The symposium offers five presentations about this innovative graduate program, which is designed to provide expertise for future organizational leaders and consultants who are interested in facilitating change processes within human systems. The curriculum taps into individuals' passion for participative transformation, promoting the wellbeing of the organizations and communities in which they live and work. Presentations focus on the theoretical underpinnings of the program's design and content, and specific unique curriculum elements that allow for learning through experience.  The papers present both faculty perspectives on the design and evolution of the program, and student perspectives on the intensity and value of their learning.

    The five papers are:

Living la Vida Loca: Head and Heart Learning in a Cohort System

Rosemary Reilly, Andrew Trull, Terry Kyle, Concordia University

Learning Through a Paradigm Shift: Sensemaking and Learning During Transformative Change

James Conklin, Terry Kyle, Colin Robertson, Concordia University

Developing Ethical Practice Through Inquiry: It's not Know-What, it's Know-How

Warren Linds, Andrew Trull, Concordia University

An Integral Approach to Developing Coaching Competencies for Students in Human Systems Intervention

James Gavin, Madeleine Mcbrearty, Concordia University

Managing Complexity in a Temporary Learning Organization

Donald W. De Guerre, James Conklin, Andrew Trull, Terry Kyle, Susan Newman, Concordia University
