Diversity education and intercultural skills development can be extremely challenging in undergraduate, graduate, and executive classrooms as well as in organizational development assignments. Instructors and consultants often find that the individuals in their classrooms or seminars lack relevant insights into her or his personal orientation to difference, and subsequently many experience difficulty in developing intercultural communication skills necessary for managing in a diverse society. In this PDW workshop, three management educators will introduce participants to two extremely useful individual assessment instruments - the Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI) (Hammer et al, 2003) and the Communicating Supportively Assessment (CSA) (Cameron & Whetton, 2011) - that may be used to overcome some of these challenges. PDW participants will have the opportunity to complete both instruments as a means of exploring their own orientations to difference and communication. The facilitators will describe the theoretical framework that underlies each instrument and participants will use their individual results as a basis for group discussion concerning the usefulness of each instrument for enhancing diversity education and intercultural communication skills.

Pre-registration is required for this workshop. To register online, please visit https://secure.aomonline.org/PDWReg. There is a $10.00 registration fee, which covers the cost of assessments for participants. The deadline to register online is August 10, 2011.
