    Dear All,

One of my graduate students aims to explore and compare the communication behavior styles of construction personnel. In this connection, we are interested in gaining access to the communication style scale developed by Gudykunst.

Since Gudykunst died in 2005 , we tried to contact with Ting Toomey. In spite of many attempts in the past to contact her we still  have not received any reply from her. This is the reason why we're asking for your help in this matter.

Your prompt attention will be greatly appreciated

    Dear Prof. Giritli,

I don't have the instrument developed by Gudykunst.  However, I read about an alternative instrument developed by a research group at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

The reference is as follows"Developing a parsimonious measure of high-low context communication style" (2003) by Kim, Polyorat & Alden in European Advances in Consumer Research, vol.6:168-174.  There instrument is as the title of the article indicates supposed to be shorter and easier to administer.  This could be important for your student's research focusing on construction workers.

    Hopefully this information helps.

    Best,

    Lichia Saner-Yiu

    Heyecan,

I am not familiar with the scale; however, a quick search of "Google Scholar" returned a book by Gudykunst titled "Bridging Differences: Effective Intergroup Communication" Your questionnaire appears to be discussed in it. You should be able to click on the book title above for a link to the Google Scholar web page that provides a copy of the book. It is available for reading on this website and, perhaps, download.

The book is formatted as a textbook; but, my best guess is that the questions from his questionnaire are discussed in a fair amount of detail through out the text. For example, in Table 1.1 on page 22, ten questions are provided that focus on assessing uncertainty.

Good luck and I hope this helps,

    Frank
