2012 TTC Professional Development Workshops: Call for Proposals

The mission of the Teaching Theme Committee is to advance the practice and scholarship of teaching in the Academy.

    The Informal Economy

An ignored but increasingly important phenomenon. A threat, an opportunity, or both? Relevant "elsewhere" or "in our own backyard?" To study and teach or to ignore at our peril?

In keeping with the theme of the 2012 conference, TTC encourages submissions intended to broaden and challenge our thinking about both the recognized and potential concerns and opportunities the informal economy presents. In particular, we welcome PDWs to examine specific implications for what we teach and how we teach it. To this end, TTC invites PDW proposals to creatively address questions associated with the conference theme and/or:

    • Define, measure, and advance excellence in our teaching practices and content.
    • Address practical issues or challenges management faculty confront in their classrooms, especially encouraging learning beyond personal experiences, beliefs, and value systems.
    • Inspire and prepare junior faculty to become highly effective teachers.
    • Engage participants in advancing the scholarship of teaching.
    • Share and stimulate innovative teaching ideas and practices to broaden and integrate students' thinking.
    • Support faculty teaching online, serving non-traditional populations, and/or working in other countries.
    • Address institutional or industry factors to reduce constraints or to increase excellence in teaching.

TTC gives priority to interactive sessions that facilitate sharing and learning across institutions, disciplines, and national boundaries. Fundamentally, TTC welcomes submissions, presenters, and participants dedicated to excellence in teaching in business and management programs.

TTC encourages many forms of creative and provocative submissions (e.g., workshop, invited speaker, panel discussion, town hall meeting, tour, keynote address, symposium, tutorial, workout sessions, debates, case study, and roundtable). We encourage proposals aimed at the conference theme or other timely teaching issues. PDW sessions will be scheduled for August 3 through August 4, 2012.

Every PDW organizer must submit a formal proposal using the 2012 PDW Proposal Submission Form no later than Tuesday January 10, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.  The 2012 PDW Proposal Submission Form will be available starting on November 2 at: http://submissions.aomonline.org/2012.

We welcome general inquiries and discussions about PDW ideas through December 13, 2011, to either christinahannahumuc@gmail.com or claudia.ferrante@usafa.edu.
