The meta-analysis of LMX by Dulebohn, Bommer, Liden, Brouer, & Ferris (2011) JOM display the massive and pervasive power of the heart and soul of the human side of organizations. As they conclude, "LMX relationships may be central to organizational functioning". My latest statement of LMX theory in the forthcoming (2012) Oxford Handbook of Leadership, Oxford University Press, edited by Mike Rumsey, explains why the above quote is a logical conclusion.
The Chinese discovered and refined their version of LMX many generations ago which is call "G" or "Guanxi". If Westerners could learn to understand Guanxi, they would be better prepared to understand and practice their homegrown version called LMX. What do you think?
