Purpose
Material storytelling is placed as a methodology for a new paradigmatic take on leadership education and development, which resituates hegemonies of language over materiality, verbal over non-verbal communication, explicit over implicit ways of knowing. Thereby credit is rendered to alternate forms of learning. By enhancing the use of supplementary pedagogical means in fusing various experiential learning modalities with propositional and practical kinds of knowing, the material story lab offers new material, spatial, and embodied ways of working with leadership development.
Learning objectives
We intend to use the concept of material storytelling as an inspiration for leadership development, drawing upon the implications for using material storytelling as an intra-active pedagogy. This includes:
*
Exploring potentials of material storytelling for systemic, problem-based learning and development
*
Engaging in problem-based learning conceptualized from a material storytelling methodology
Outline
The workshop is organized as follows.
*
First, we explore the pluralistic stories of participants as initial foci for enabling collective problem-based learning via material storytelling.
*
Second, we create an "object theatre" as a means for collective problem-based learning via material storytelling.
*
Third, various theory lenses are applied to the object theatres, which may lead to the introduction or removal of objects or rearranging them according to the theorized solutions.
*
Fourth, learning is shared with other participants.
Join us as we co-create this storytelling adventure in leadership development!
Best,
Steve
