GIVING VOICE TO VALUES
VALUES–DRIVEN LEADERSHIP AND ETHICS IN BUSINESS EDUCATION
Greetings!
I hope your summer is well begun!
I am delighted to share some of the exciting developments with the "Giving Voice To Values" approach to Values-Driven Leadership development! Please do visit www.GivingVoiceToValues.org and www.GivingVoiceToValuesTheBook.com to access the curriculum and learn more.
Here are a few of the highlights, thanks to the intellectual and pedagogical efforts of the GVV Network:
· The GVV/INDIA Curriculum Collection is well launched with 10 new cases written by Indian faculty! Deep gratitude to the faculty authors, their case subjects and to the United Nations Global Compact PRME (http://www.unprme.org/index.php) initiative for funding this project, and to our wonderful Project Manager, Debra Wheat! The list of new cases with authors is attached and they are posted at the Curriculum webpage: www.GivingVoiceToValues.org.
· The CHINESE TRANSLATION of the GVV book will be out later this summer from Business Weekly press with Yale University Press; A special "Thank You!" to Liang Yu, recent Duke MBA graduate for his careful work with the translation. And a reminder that the SPANISH Language edition is available at http://www.editorialproteus.com/cont/novedades/novedades_sola_cas.php?idField=77&table=novedades
· New ACCOUNTING CASEBOOK features GVV! At the end of each chapter of Excel-Based Decisions in Managerial Accounting, Teresa Stephenson and Jason Porter include a GVV style case scenario: "Like all of the GVV materials, the questions in these scenarios push students beyond the common "what should I do" questions to think about what should be done by the individuals to ensure that an ethical decision is made." http://armonddalton.com/excelmanagerialaccounting.html
· Forthcoming Interactive Online Social Cohort-Based MODULES introducing GVV Concepts: GVV has partnered with Nomadic to develop an affordable, customizable series of modules that make it even easier to use GVV across the business curriculum. For more information, contact Mgentile3@babson.edu.
· NEW GVV CASES: In addition to the ten new GVV/India cases, we have recently added a number of additional new GVV cases to the collection. For example, "Rhonda Delgado and the Compromised CEO;" "Apologizing at Community Hospital;" "Doing Bad to do Good;" "Monopolization or Delivery on Mission?"; "Who's My Boss?"; etc. Please check the Curriculum tab at www.GivingVoiceToValues.org periodically to see what's new!
· GVV Book Series Launched with Business Expert Press! The first book is out: Pippa Grange's Ethical Leadership in Sport: What's Your ENDgame? http://businessexpertpress.com/books/ethical-leadership-sport-whats-your-endgame Quite a few other books have been signed already; contact Mgentile3@babson.edu if you would like to submit a proposal.
· GVV To Be Featured at the KPMG Accounting Faculty Symposium in New York City (June 2014).
· GVV To Be Featured at the 1st International Business Ethics Forum in Seoul (July 2014), sponsored by Deloitte Korea and Sogang University's Sustainable Business Ethics Research Institute.
· The Future of GVV: Professor Gregory C. Unruh of George Mason University has written a new case on "Mary Gentile: Transforming the Conversation Around Values-Driven Behavior". This case could be very useful for discussions of social entrepreneurship, scaling ideas and leadership. In particular, we are hoping you and your students may share ideas about how to continue to grow and expand GVV!
· GLOBAL GVV: In recent months, GVV has been featured in programs in Israel, India, Canada, all over the U.S....and we are soon off to Germany, South Korea, Australia and more!
· GVV Case Competition on Anti-Corruption, in Partnership with the United Nations Global Compact PRME and NACRA; Winner will be announced at NACRA conference in Austin in October, 2014.
· GVV ACROSS THE CURRICULUM: A new book on using GVV in Accounting, Economics, Operations, Marketing, Leadership, Sustainability, Social Entrepreneurship, Public Sector Management, HRM, Negotiations, Management and Ethics was published recently as part of the United Nations Global Compact PRME book series. See http://businessexpertpress.com/books/educating-values-driven-leadership-giving-voice-values-across-curriculum.
· In May-June 2014, ECOA and Gentile are repeating last year's very successful 6-session Webinar on Giving Voice To Values for corporate and faculty users!
· NEW COURSE! An Intensive GVV Elective was recently piloted at Babson. The course – When Leadership Really Counts: An Action Practicum – has 3 components: (1) students are introduced to and experience GVV themselves; (2) they develop GVV cases and teaching plans in a functional area or industry of their choice; and then (3) they deliver the material to their peers in a workshop format. This LEARN-CREATE-SHARE model allows students to develop Peer Coaching Skills in enacting their values and allows their institutions the chance to develop a co-branded collection of GVV materials. The course can be offered as a regular course, a half course and/or a two-weekend intensive workshop/course. If you or one of your colleagues would like to offer this course, please contact us for more information: Mgentile3@babson.edu .
· VIDEOS, ARTICLES, INTERVIEWS, OP-EDS: There are lots of other materials that can be used in your teaching at the book website, www.MaryGentile.com, under the "Media Room" and the "Other Writing" tabs. Most are FREE. Of particular interest is the 8 minute video introduction to GVV from McKinsey Quarterly: https://www.mckinseyquarterly.com/Strategy/Strategic_Thinking/Voicing_values_in_the_workplace_2663?gp=1
· In addition to the growing ACADEMIC use, increasingly CORPORATE AUDIENCES are asking to learn more about GVV, for internal training and for leadership development purposes. Presentations for individual companies are on the rise.
· A GVV WORKSHOP with POWERPOINTS and INSTRUCTOR GUIDELINES: PowerPoints' and Instructor Guidelines have been developed to make it easier for faculty and managers to introduce GVV in their own programs. If you are an educator or company representative, contact Mgentile3@babson.edu if you are interested in the materials.
I will stop there but there is always more and your ideas and contributions are always welcome and HUGELY appreciated. Be in touch ANY TIME!
Thank you and Cheers!
