Dear Colleagues, please feel free to pass this onto your students. Ecovillages are interesting local sustainability sites of learning and experimenting. In the past, I have taken my students to learn about local food issues, eco-regionalism, permaculture, renewable energy, collective action, etc etc. See you there! Ana Ma.

The Fall 2011 CCCBE Speaker Series begins on Sept 22nd from 4-5pm in Cornett Building B107.
Prof. Deborah Curran & Brandy Gallagher will present O.U.R. Ecovillage: Finance, Ownership and Governance of Common Landholdings.
Holding land in common to build community and sustainability presents unique ownership, finance and governance issues that do not fit easily into existing regulatory and legal structures. Over the past decade the community of people at O.U.R. Ecovillage has addressed these barriers to common landholding and created many new ways of living together in community. The lessons learned from developing these governance and legal innovations are relevant for all types of organizations interested in holding land in common. Brandy and Deborah will describe the process of building O.U.R. Ecovillage and the outstanding issues that they are currently resolving in partnership with financial institutions.
Professor Curran is a Hakai Professor in Environmental Law and Sustainability at the University of Victoria Faculty of Law. Brandy Gallagher is one of the founders of O.U.R. Ecovillage and the Executive Director of O.U.R. Ecovillage Society.
This CCCBE Speaker Series Presentation is free & open to the public with support from Central 1 Credit Union, Co-operators Group, Federated Co-operatives Ltd & Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.
