OBTC 2015 Teaching Conference for Management Educators

    June 17 – 20, 2015

University of La Verne, La Verne, California

    Proposal deadline: January 20, 2015

    Conference theme: Learning in Community

We invite your submissions for the annual OBTC Teaching Conference for Management Educators in La Verne, California, where we will continue our strong tradition of innovative and interactive dialogue on the vital ideas, issues, and challenges facing teachers and learners. OBTC is a constructive space where management educators learn from each other, informing our teaching and helping us create meaningful learning experiences.

Learning is at its core a social activity. We are social learners, opening up through others' ideas, actions, support, and questions. When we come together with others, we connect in deeper ways, creating a community where we can learn from the tensions inherent in knowing, teaching, and learning the realities of managing and leading organizations. As Parker Palmer reminds us, "reality is a web of communal relationships, and we can know reality only by being in community with it" (The Courage to Teach, Jossey-Bass, 1998, 2007). What are the communities essential to good teaching and learning? We welcome a wide variety of submissions, including, but not limited to, the following areas:

    ·      Creating an active learning community where students connect their learning to the subject, themselves, and their fellow learners.

    ·      Encouraging distinctive or diverse expression that challenges our assumptions and broadens our understanding of diverse communities.

    ·      Developing communities that support educators and their learning.

    ·      Understanding our role as authentic teachers, deeply connecting who we are with our students and what we teach.

    ·      Linking learners though technology and social platforms that challenge students to learn online in ways that connect and support spirit, passion, and ideas.

    ·      Connecting with the broader local and global community to inform and deepen student learning.

    ·      Community engagement that is mutually beneficial through service learning, community partnerships, field explorations, etc.

Be creative and thoughtful about what learning in community means to you and how you can share your ideas with us.

The University of La Verne, located in southern California, embodies a sense of learning community though its history, programs, and community engagement.  You will find it offers a unique, beautiful, and welcoming space for us to connect.

Sessions may be 30, 60, or 90 minutes long. We are a highly interactive and experiential conference and we encourage submissions that create a community learning experience. All submissions are blind reviewed. Conference submission details are available at OBTS.org.

In the spirit of welcoming a variety of authors to our conference, we ask that an author submit no more than two presentation proposals. This helps ensure that we hear from a number of different perspectives and that no one has too many conference commitments to honor.

Join our learning community at La Verne!
