    Dear Colleagues,

I have attached a brochure describing an international conference that might be of interest to you, particularly if you have an interest in a psychoanalytic approach to organizational behavior.  The conference will be held at the Connors Center of Boston College in Dover, Massachusetts.  More information about the conference can be found at this website: www.akriinternational.com

Here is an excerpt from the website about the experiential learning method:

The approach was initially developed at the Tavistock Institute in London and expanded by the A.K. Rice Institute in the United States and other organizations around the world. A working assumption is that groups and organizations inevitably develop their own dynamics -- often out of awareness -- that affect the individuals who work within them. Increasing recognition of these pressures can increase the capacity of individuals to work competently in groups, organizations and social systems.

In this conference, members and staff will create a temporary institution (ending on the last day) whose function is to be studied. The conference will develop its own practices, rituals, culture and ways of working. Focusing on the group and the social system rather than on individuals, the conference will provide opportunities in "real time" for members to experience and study the dynamics of groups and the nature and exercise of authority and leadership as these roles unfold. Rather than learning in the traditional educational format from teachers or experts, the approach is based on learning from the experience itself. The shape of individual learning is left to each member. Though the staff will draw attention to learning opportunities for the group, they will make no attempt to prescribe what should be learned by individuals.

The website provides more detailed information about concepts that inform the design of these conferences including links to articles and a video that discuss the history, rationale and methods.
