    Dear Colleagues,

    Nominations are officially open for the 2015 OBTS New Educator Award (NEA). Please see information below about the nomination process and criteria for selection. We invite you to carefully consider the criteria for this prestigious award and submit a nomination if you know someone who fits both the "letter and spirit" of what the NEA is all about!

    The Society

    The OBTS Teaching Society for Management Educators (obts.org) is the oldest international professional organization dedicated to teaching and learning excellence in the organizational and management sciences. Society members are faculty at universities and colleges throughout the world, as well as business educators and management consultants. Through our annual teaching conference, regional professional development activities, strategic alliances, and publications (including the peer-reviewed Journal of Management Education), OBTS continuously strives to be a premiere provider of critical resources that impact the quality and future of management education.

    Purpose of the Award

    The purpose of the OBTS New Educator Award is to recognize academics who have shown early promise to make a difference in the field of management education.  These individuals are not just exceptional classroom instructors, but also educational innovators who have shown cutting-edge promise and creativity through their teaching, scholarship, and/or service. They are the emerging voices in management education who promise to bring new ways of thinking about and practicing our craft. A list of previous award winners can be found on OBTS website (obts.org/content/obts-awards).

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, nominees are to be at an early stage of their teaching careers, defined as regularly teaching for the past 5 years or less. This includes individuals who have earned a doctorate degree in 2010 or later and have taken a full time, tenure-track position following completion of their degree. It could also include those who have earned a doctorate degree before 2010, but spent one or more years in a non-academic position with effectively no teaching responsibilities before taking a full time, tenure-track position.  Nominees need not be current OBTS members, but should be able to demonstrate Society involvement in some way (e.g., past conference attendee or presenter, published author in the Journal of Management Education, committee volunteer, etc.).

    Selection Criteria

    The 2015 NEA Selection Committee will use the following criteria to evaluate all complete, eligible nomination portfolios:

    1. Innovation in teaching, student engagement, and/or the student experience

    2. Teaching effectiveness

    3. Contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning

    4. Related service activities to school/college, university, OBTS and/or the broader academic community.

    Submission Process & Deadlines

    The submission process occurs in two stages. First, all nominees must be submitted via email to George Hrivnak (ghrivnak@bond.edu.au), Chair of the NEA Selection Committee by January 1, 2015. The nomination should include the nominee's:

    1. Name

    2. Title

    3. Organizational affiliation

    4. Email address

    5. Phone

    6. A brief statement summarizing the individual's innovative contributions to management education

    Second, once the nomination has been confirmed by the Chair, the nominee will then be invited to submit evidence supporting: (1) his or her contributions to management education to date and (2) the promise of continued contributions in the future. The evidence should include:

    1. an up-to-date CV highlighting publication and service contributions to management education;

    2. a personal statement of teaching philosophy (2-5 pages);

    3. two or three course syllabi that reflect the nominee's teaching philosophy in action;

    4. sample material demonstrating innovation in teaching, student engagement, assessment, etc.;

    5. evidence supporting teaching effectiveness (e.g., peer reviews, student evaluations, awards);

    6. a summary of Society involvement (e.g., past conference attendee or presenter, published author in the Journal of Management Education, committee volunteer).

    The portfolio of evidence should be submitted as an organized, focused and succinct presentation of the candidate's merits with respect to the purpose of the NEA. Finalists may be requested by the Selection Committee to submit additional materials to support the nomination as needed. The nominee's complete application package is due to George Hrivnak (ghrivnak@bond.edu.au), by January 15, 2015.  Please note, the deadlines have been established such that the winner may have ample time to prepare to attend OBTC 2015 at the University of LaVerne in June (obts.org/2015) to receive the award.

    As Chair, I will be glad to answer any questions you may have about this award. We look forward to receiving your nominations!

    Best regards,

    George
