Attention US Undergraduate Institutions: Host Application Deadline April
1,
2002
IREX is pleased to announce the launch of the 2002-2003 FSA
Undergraduate
Program, a program of the US Department of State's Bureau of Educational
and
Cultural Affairs (ECA), funded under the Freedom Support Act (FSA). This
program, subject to Department of State and congressional approval, will
be
administered by IREX. Host applications are now available on the IREX
website
http://www.irex.org/programs/fsau/index.htm for US undergraduate
institutions interested in this program.
Host Application Deadline: April 1, 2002!
The Freedom Support Act Undergraduate Program (FSAU) provides
fellowships to
second- and third-year undergraduate students from Armenia, Azerbaijan,
Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, the Russian
Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan for one
year
of non-degree undergraduate study in the United States in the fields of
agriculture, American studies, business, economics, education,
environmental
management, international relations, journalism and mass communication,
political science, and sociology.
Hosting FSAU students brings a variety of benefits to US institutions:
. Students are selected through a merit-based competition that
includes in-person interviews and language testing;
. Institutions receive free publicity through IREX and the
student;
. Students contribute to campus diversity;
. Interaction with students can lead to potential new contacts
that
might result in international collaboration; and
. IREX sponsors students' visas, provides complete financial
support,
and monitors and supports their progress.
Separate applications are available for US four-year institutions and
community colleges. If you are an undergraduate institution that has
already
submitted an application to American Councils (ACTR/ACCELS) for hosting
in
the 2002-2003 academic year, you may not need to submit an application.
