More about the ATA
Academic Training Association
ATA
The Academic Training Association (ATA) is a not-for-profit academic
foundation based at the University of Amsterdam and with a field
office in Pristina. The organisation was established in 1994, under
the name of YSY. In 2000, the name was changed to ATA.
Through various kinds of academic support projects, ATA contributes
to the restructuring and reform of universities in South East Europe,
and thus to processes of transition and reconstruction underway in
the region. Previous ATA projects have included summer universities,
students and staff exchanges, English language programmes, and
needs-assessments at universities in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the
University of Tuzla in particular. Our goal is always to address
specific needs of staff and students as directly as possible, and to
gradually transfer project management to the local beneficiaries.
All ATA projects start from three basic principles:
* a demand-driven approach;
* encouragement of cross-regional and international long-term
academic co-operation;
* promotion of local ownership, i.e. the gradual transfer of projects
to host institutions.
ATA is an independent organisation that maintains neutrality on
questions of international borders. The use of the place names
Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo/a, Serbia, and Yugoslavia does not
reflect any position on the question of maintaining or changing
current internationally recognised borders.
ATA is currently developing academic support projects in various
parts of South East Europe, including Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo,
Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Current and future projects
include:
* exchanges of students and staff;
* summer and winter universities;
* unit partnerships;
* development of studies in social sciences;
* English language programmes;
* introduction of systems of quality assurance and standardised credit systems.
