Barlow raised some general questions pertaining to the above subject. When
I was at the University of Delaware, I taught in an MBA program
specifically targeted towards DuPont and held in their premises (not on-
line). DuPont is a large organization and the students were from several
different divisions. Thus, the diversity of background and work experience
of the students in a class was comparable to that of the regular class.
(However, in another program offered at MBNA, a single-business bank, this
was an issue.)
The program content was not tailored for the organization. The company was
offering it as a benefit for their employees; it was additional revenue
for the University and additional income (overload) opportunity for the
faculty. The institution also saw it as building bridges to major
customers/donors.
Some of the students in the DuPont program saw it as an opportunity to
acquire skills/degree at company so they could change careers, perhaps at
another company if necessary. Some who changed jobs in the middle of the
program transfered to the regular campus MBA and completed their degree.
