Colleagues:
The new (6th) edition of The Ropes (Ritti and Levy) will be available in
May. It features realistic and highly-engaging tales of organizational
life
as well as principles for analyzing the lessons therein. These sixty
"mini-cases" are great conversation starters that deal with
" . . . issues of how the culture of an organization functions. It
takes
time to learn about such matters as a participant because the most
important
principles are unspoken, taken-for-granted rules for the day-to-day
conduct
of affairs. Indeed, experienced practitioners are not explicitly aware
of
the rules that they are following . . .
The aim of this text is to introduce you to a different way of looking
at
organizations, to Œlearning the ropes" through an analysis of the myths,
folkways, and rituals that constitute everyday organizational life . . .
"
