We are preparing a new textbook that is focusing on the integration of
business management and the sciences, and we are looking for suitable
teaching cases. The textbook is to be completed by November 15, 2002,
and will be published by the Imperial College Press. It will consist
of conceptual notes introducing various business management topics
followed by teaching cases. A comprehensive summary chapter will be
included at the end of the textbook along with Internet addresses for
students to look up latest information concerning related issues.
Senior level and MBA students interested in integration of business
management and the sciences will be its primary users. However,
science programs focusing on R&D management, executive training
programs, and in-house workshops have also been targeted. The
textbook will have a strong international orientation, since number of
universities in North America and Europe are already offering majors
in integration of business management and the sciences.
Although we have teaching cases written specifically for this
textbook, we are looking for additional teaching cases. The purpose
of these teaching cases is to examine concepts in those areas were
business management and the sciences, including engineering and R&D,
interact the most. Teaching cases focusing on business management and
scientific issues early in the new product development process or new
product market introduction are most desirable. The cases typically
consist of three parts: (1) the teaching case, technical note briefly
explaining the scientific foundation for the case, and a teaching
note.
If you are interested in having your case included in this textbook,
we would like to hear from you. An international team of academics
(finance, management, marketing, biology, and chemistry) will review
all submitted cases. The editors will make the final decision on
which cases will be included in the textbook. Please send us, via
e-mail,
george.tesar@fek.umu.se, a short abstract or half a page
description of your case by May 31, 2002, and, if appropriate, we will
send you a complete description of the textbook along with a sample
case. If your case is selected for the textbook, the case will be
included with complete description of the author(s) and full
institutional affiliation.
