Call for chapters for Virtual & Collaborative Teams: Process,
Technologies,
& Practice, a book edited by Sue Godar & Pixy Ferris, William Paterson
University.
Teams are an integral element in today's corporate and industrial world,
considered by some to be the fundamental unit of organizations - and
technology has become essential to team work. Internet and web
technologies,
in particular, assume importance today as they introduce a new element
into
organizational teams. People no longer must work in the same physical
location to work "together." These virtual teams, however, face a
variety of
challenges, some of which are common to all work groups and some which
are
specific to computer-mediated communication in work groups. Virtual
teams
function by breaking down traditional barriers of space and time, and
have
immense potential for improving organizational effectiveness.
We are interested in chapters on, but not limited to, the following
topics
from both academics and practioners:
Conflict/Dysfunctional teams
Creating context - high versus low
Ethical decision making in virtual teams
Gender and diversity in teams
Group composition and dynamics
Hybrid teams - combining face-to-face with virtual meetings
Knowledge transfer - tacit vs. codified
Leadership techniques/Leaderless teams
Prioritizing communication
Problems/possibilities of international teams
Productivity of virtual vs. "regular" work groups
Satisfaction with the process
Socializing within virtual teams
Synchronous vs. asynchronous communication strategies and results
Team uses (new product development, training, etc.)
Technology - Electronic Meeting Systems (EMS), Group Support Systems
(GSS),
etc.
Timing issues for both domestic and global groups
Trust building
