    I am looking for a good text and up-to-date cases on "strategy" for
    teaching at a German international business school (in Dec. 02). Any
    suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    The Best-selling book in Europe is:
    Gerry Johnson and Kevan Scholes "Exploring Corporate Cases: Text and
    Cases"
    (6th Edition) published 2002, Financial Times/Prentice Hall, ISBN 0 273
    65112 9 (Must be the "With cases" edition - they do produce a text only
    version.)

    Their 37 major cases include: Ericsson; Pharmaceutical Industry;
    Amazon.com;
    Formula 1; BMW; News Corp; Ryanair; South African Breweries; Brewery
    Group
    Denmark; GlaxoSmithKline; Xerox.

    The book also contains many smaller cases within the text, which are
    useful
    for class discussion.

    There is also a good tutors website, with downloadable PowerPoint
    slides,
    question lists, etc - and a students site (but I think they might charge
    for
    access).

    We use it as the main text on all version of our MBA.

    The one other which is really very good is:
    Thomas L Wheelen and J David Hunger "Strategic Management and Business
    Policy" (8th Ed)2002 publ also Prentice Hall, ISBN 0 13 065121 4

    This is great for cases - it has 12 chapters (13, including strategic
    issues
    in not for profit organisations, which could be the basis for a course,
    with
    lots of practical examples and questions. Then there are 35 cases,
    Covering
    topics related to the chapters, like Corporate Governance; Social
    responsibility and ethics; International issues in strategic Management;
    various industries, such as Internet Dot.Coms, Computing, Recreation and
    Leisure, etc.
    Companies include: Harley Davidson; Reebok International; Cisco and Sun
    Microsystems; Body Shop; Apple, Hewlett Packard; Wal Mart; SMART car.
    Mercedes Benz.
    It is an American book, by American authors, and has a more noticeable
    American "feel" to the text.

    Let me know if I can help further!
