Call for papers (apologies for cross-postings)
Science organizations and the organization of science
Sub-theme 19 at the 19th EGOS (European Group for Organizational
Studies) Colloquium, Copenhagen, Denmark, July 3-5, 2003
This sub-theme convened within the 19th EGOS Colloquium aims to focus on
the emerging forms of organizing in the production of scientific
knowledge. The university as an organizational form is expected to
constitute the primary centre of attention. Papers may be looking into
stability and change in governance patterns, strategic orientations and
internal structural arrangements within universities in view of
alterations in their environmental contexts. Emergence of various forms
of private involvement and ownership in universities and their impact on
knowledge production could be another major concern. Likewise, proposed
papers may examine the outcomes for universities of moving beyond
conventional boundaries and partaking in more market-driven structural
arrangements. Papers could also focus on the emergence of actors and
structural forms that go beyond inter-linkages with the university
system. The emergence, growth, operations and population dynamics of
organizational and inter-organizational forms including or excluding
universities need further examination. The interaction of such novel
moves with government science policies could also constitute a fruitful
area of study.
The sub-theme invites conceptual or empirical papers informed by
different organizational perspectives on these and related issues and
topics. Papers from different national settings are particularly sought,
as is work that is of a comparative nature. Although submissions are
more likely to be concerned with more recent changes, emerging
structures and possible futures of extant forms, papers that are
historically orientated are also welcome. Deadline for submission of
abstracts is December 31, 2002.
