CARTOONISH BEHAVIOR: Student journalists are running scared at Harvard
Business School. Last Tuesday editors of the Harbus, the HBS student
newspaper, deleted a cartoon from its Web site after school officials
deemed the cartoon ''disrespectful'' to the HBS career services office.
The cartoon, satirizing computer snafus in career services, showed a
computer malfunctioning and an error message popping up with the words
''incompetent morons'' (as well as ''joke''). HBS officials reprimanded
two students, including the editor, Nick Will, who resigned in protest.
Todd Krizelman, chairman of the Harbus, says editors decided for
themselves to yank the cartoon. Another editor, speaking on condition of
anonymity, said the move was motivated by fear. ''People at the Harbus
are terrified of the administration,'' the student said.
