KANSAS CITY, Mo., October 30, 2002 - The Ewing Marion Kauffman
Foundation today announced that applications are being accepted for the
second round of funding for the Kauffman Emerging Scholars Initiative, a
grant program designed to accelerate research into entrepreneurial
activity. In August, five Ph.D. students were awarded the first Kauffman
Emerging Scholars grants.
"Through this initiative, we hope to help launch a new group of
world-class scholars to further the study of the field of
entrepreneurship," says Larry Cox, director of programmatic research at
the Kauffman Foundation. "It is also our hope that the findings
generated by this effort will have immediate applications for
policymakers, educators, service providers and entrepreneurs."
Proposals submitted to the Kauffman Emerging Scholars Initiative must
address research issues of theoretical and practical importance to the
domain of entrepreneurship, focusing on individuals or for-profit
organizations involved in launching new ventures or growing established
ones. The program is open to Ph.D. students and doctoral candidates from
accredited U.S. institutions of higher education.
Up to five recipients will each receive a maximum of $15,000 to support
academic research into entrepreneurship. The deadline for applications
is Jan. 3, 2003. To download a copy of the Request for Proposals and to
apply online go to http://kesi.emkf.org
