In reaction to an announcement of MG-ED-DV, George Munchus writes that
MG-ED-DV "is long overdue. I thought we had one good friend. I have
often wondered about the reliabilty and validity of some of these
    teaching evaluations forms used today?"
What are the key research findings in this regard? Anyone?

Hi everyone! I recently sent out a summary of responses that I received

relating to a few questions I had about teaching evaluations. (I was
    recently
appointed to a task force to evaluate our institution's teaching
    evaluation
form). I have one more quick question for the group.

    Which publishing firms sell/validate teaching
evaluation forms (similar to firms that sell/validate human resource
assessment tools such as NCS, Wonderlic, Psych Corp., etc. etc.)? I'm
wondering if such a service exists and if I can be provided with the
    name of
the companies? I'd like to contact them for more information - thanks!

As always, I'll summarize my findings and send them out to the group in
    a few
weeks. Thanks in advance for your time and any leads.

    Hi Susan,

I recently received this information from ETS,"... the Student Instructional Report (SIR II),a short questionnaire that provides student impressions of teaching and learning in their courses. This program has been a standard on many campuses since 1972. It was revised in 1996 to include more up-to-date
teaching methods. And this spring we will be piloting an on-line version both for distance learning environments and for traditional classroom use.
You can examine the items on the SIR II by logging on to www.etstechnologies.com/sir2
You can see what instructors fill out to receive their reports and what students answer. Just keep clicking on "submit" until you see the entire questionnaire. You will then be prompted to exit.

If I can answer any questions or offer any further information, don't hesitate to call or write.

    Best wishes,

I hope that this helps. Would you send your summary directly to me? I do not want to miss it.

All I am aware of is "Search" having some evaluation forms
www.searchinstitute.org Possibly the U.S. Dept. of Education website
might provide some links as well. The first major reason you will have
difficulty in this that evaluation forms must be approved by each
individual bargaining unit. And, the second reason is that many teachers
connect evaluation with accountability and accountability with student
performance. Given the consistent lack of significant performance
improvement, evaluations are not readily embraced. Go figure. There is
another movement about between the National Education Association and
state governments in which they certify teachers with a national
designation. This certification involves observation, portfolio and some
    pen and paper assessments.
