Leadership Scholars, we invite you to attend and participate in the following AOM PDW in Orlando this summer. We anticipate several engaging and productive discussions in promising areas of LMX research.

    LMX Research Incubator

    Program Session #: 115 | Submission: 10293 | Sponsor(s): (OB)
Scheduled: Friday, Aug 9 2013 1:30PM - 4:30PM at WDW Dolphin Resort in Asia 2

Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) has been studied for over 40 years in the Management literature and has repeatedly demonstrated its relevance and importance in the organizational context with significant relationships with almost every leadership outcome variable (Gertsner & Day, 1997; Sin et al., 2009). Studies have been conducted across the globe and consistent results have been found, indicating its international importance (Dulebohn et al., 2011; Rockstahl, Ang, & Shore, 2012). However, the LMX literature is in need of a critical rejuvenation with regards to new directions for theory and research. This PDW aims to provide a forum for discussion of LMX in several promising areas of inquiry. The session will start with remarks from George Graen on the development of LMX over the past 40 years from the discovery of "unique strategic alliances" to team performance and directions for future LMX research. The session will then break out into six group discussions of different LMX topics: LMX Team Theory, LMX Change & Innovation, LMX Networks, LMX agreement and aggregation, LMX global groups, and Cross-Cultural LMX. Consistent with the LMX theme, each table discussion will be led by a dyad of topic- specific LMX scholars. Individuals who attend the round tables will be encouraged to bring their research ideas and research in progress. Each table will report their ideas to the entire group and the conclusion of the session facilitated by co-moderator Monica Sharif. At the end of the discussion, George Graen will present concluding remarks and suggestions for future collaboration.
