Call for papers and reviewers for a special issue of Management Decision entitled Enhancing Decisions
The focus of the issue would be on ways to help people with managerial responsibilities at work and in private lives, enhance their decision-making skills and, of course, their success. Selection of papers for the issue would be based on their likely interest to individuals who want to improve their own skills, to faculty member in various disciplines, and even more so to readers who have management development responsibilities.
The publisher of this special edition, Emerald Publishing, is the world's leading publisher of management papers. Its focus on theory-into-practice means that Emerald journals publish papers with direct application to the world of work.
Papers can address research or viewpoints. They can be technical or conceptual papers, case studies, literature reviews, or general reviews.
All papers will be double-blind reviewed, after a preliminary screening by the guest editor.
As a guide, papers should be between 3,000 and 6,000 words in length. A title of not more than twelve words should be provided. Specific instructions for registering and for submitting papers are at the end of this call. Deadline is August 1, 2010.

Specific areas for papers can be drawn from the list below, but would not be limited by it.
- impact of decision quality on career and life successes
- techniques and tools for learning and for training in management decision-making skills, including audio-visual aids and interactive approaches including simulations
- the role of the internet to assist in identifying and using such techniques and tools - and related research
- criteria for selecting alternative solutions in decisions
- criteria for evaluating alternatives and the respective benefits and shortcomings
- differences in approaching problems-solving and opportunity-exploiting decisions
- importance of, and techniques for, seeking and finding useful opportunities in managerial roles and in private life
- reports on research in advances of technological decision-making tools
- reports on research into effectiveness of decision-making procedures
- descriptions of technological advances for decision-making and for training in decision-making, and reports on effectiveness
- recognizing the influence of personal subjective considerations in decision-making
Eight to ten papers will be accepted for this special issue.

Author Guidelines for Paper Submission
To submit your paper online you must create an author account at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/md then follow the on-screen guidance which takes you through the submission process. ScholarOne Manuscripts is an intuitive and author-friendly interface for submitting articles to Emerald journals over the Internet. Online submission facilitates a fast and efficient publication service and provides the author with the ability to track their paper through the review process. Registering on ScholarOne Manuscripts
· To register please follow the instructions below:
· Log on to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/md
· Click on the create account link at the top right of the screen.
· Follow the on-screen instructions, filling in the requested details before proceeding
· Your username will be your email address and you have to input a password of at least 8 characters in length and containing two or more numbers
· Click 'Finish' and your account has been created
Submitting a new article
· Once Registered go to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/md with your username and password. This will take you through to the Welcome page.
· (To consult the Author Guidelines for this journal click on the Home Page link in the Resources column).
· Click on the Author Centre button.
· Click on the 'click here to submit a new manuscript' link which will take you through to the Manuscript Submission page.
· Complete all fields and browse to upload your article. Please include your structured abstract in your article file.
· At the 'please select the type of issue' (step 4) please highlight "Enhancing Decisions" in the dropdown list
· You must upload a minimum of 2 files: An anonymous article file (you should upload the title page – with all author contact details - as a separate file) because we operate double blind peer review
· When all required sections are completed, preview your .PDF proof.
· Submit your manuscript.
