Schon Beechler slb7@columbia.edu reminds us we can be parsimonious in
booking a hotel room for the Academy of Management August meeting (I mean
the month!) in Seattle. She suggests booking a two-adult room for a paltry
$138/night at the Grand Hyatt. To get this rate now you need to join the
Hyatt Gold Passport (frequent traveler) program (it's free):
    https://www.goldpassport.com/secure/da.asp?navH=2
Then go to the Grand Hyatt Seattle Hotel site:
    http://grandseattle.hyatt.com/property/index.jhtml
and click on "Gold Passport sign-in" in the lower gold area of the screen.

This price is a bargain that will not be available near the time of the
meeting. I suggest acting now. However, to get this rate you must prepay
the total amount and live with a $50 cancellation fee if your spouse does
not concur that the Academy of Management meeting is the ideal family
    vacation focus.

And for anyone who wants to travel the budget route and does not mind a
little driving, I have a room to rent for the week in North Bend. It is
about 30 miles out of Seattle but an easy drive on the freeway. Bed and
breakfast $50 per night for a single $75 for double occupancy. Email me
and I can send more details.

There is such a thing as "an easy drive on the freeway" in Seattle? I
thought they were as bad as any city these days, what with HOV lanes
switching sides unexpectedly (only for locals - strangers think they
disappear suddenly) and a few other uniqueness-es.

I hope you are right, nonetheless.

    Cheers,
    Jay
