Job description
AT2008.129. Ph.D.-student Team Learning
The department of Educational Research and Development is looking for a PhD student with a strong interest in research on team learning. The work of the PhD student is part of a larger research program that studies the social and cognitive factors influencing team learning.
Additional information about the job:
Given the complexity and the dynamics of the environment in which organisations operate, problems cannot longer be addressed by high-expert individuals working alone. Teams, bringing together different perspectives, are increasingly used. Our own previous studies have shown that a rich interaction and interactive discussion between these people is fundamentally a learning process that leads to the development of a shared understanding and conceptual scheme through which events can be interpreted. Yet, experiences in organizations show that working in teams remains a challenge and is often less successful as expected. When professionals with different backgrounds work together, the coordination of their expertise is not only grounded in a shared understanding of the task but also in a shared knowledge of how individual expertise is distributed in the team and how this can be used effectively. Organisations today face the challenge of solving complex multidisciplinary problems but lack the insights and tools to support teams addressing these problems. This research project, by combining validation studies with intervention studies, aims to provide organisations with these insights and tools.
Next to this research, the PhD candidate will be involved in educational innovation projects and teaching in courses on workplace and collaborative learning.
