Professional Development Workshop (PDW) on
'Rejuvenating Management Education'
Announcement
This is to give you advance notice of a PDW to be held on Saturday, 2 August
2003,
from 10 am - 4 pm. The theme is 'Rejuvenating Management Education' and is
being
organized by C. Gopinath (Suffolk University), Henry Mintzberg (McGill
University), and Jonathan Gosling (Lancaster University).
This session is intended to build upon the talk Prof. Mintzberg gave at the
Denver
Meeting of the Academy when he talked about the need to break the frame that
guides our approach to management education. He and Prof. Gosling have been
running the 'International Masters Program in Practicing Management' (IMPM)
that
is designed to do this and has been in operation for seven years
(www.impm.org).
The objective of the session is to use the experience of IMPM to probe into
management programs (as different from business programs). We will discuss
how one
can change content and process to enable a better fit between the practicing
manager as student and the workplace. The focus would be on graduate
programs that
cater to the needs of working managers, such as part-time MBA, and Executive
MBA.
The workshop would be of interest both to directors and faculty who design
and
manage such programs, as also faculty who teach in these programs and would
like
to spend some time in introspection and sharing of experiences.
We recommend pre-registration (send an e-mail to
c.gopinath@suffolk.edu) so
we can
send you some relevant materials prior to the session.
