Professors Gregory and Leonard,
Though generally announcements of doctoral study assistantship
opportunities are not posted on Mg-Ed-Dv, I did find your posting
intriguing. One question I have is: Are these open to people generally or
limited to residents of the EU? In mulling over whether or not the Academy
of Management's Management Education and Development Discussion Forum was a
proper venue for your posting, I contemplated which of our sibling virtual
communities might be better. One that comes to mind is:
STUDENT-L@AOM.PACE.EDU . This can be joined through:
http://www.aom.pace.edu:81/guest/RemoteListSummary/student_L
I can imagine the odd disgruntled doctoral student at Heartland State
University jumping at the opportunity to end up in an exotic locale such as
Hull. Though I must say that in visiting the University of Hull website
just now, to be greeted with "What's it really like to be a student at the
University of Hull" coupled with a photo of the underside of someone's heel
is disconcerting:

But welcoming conventions vary between Eurofolk such as yourself and
residents of former colonies like New York.
In clicking on "city and region" I found that Hull is home to the "The Deep"
"Europe's only submarinium":
http://www.hull.ac.uk/cityandregion/index.html
Never having encountered the word the "submarinium" I searched for it on
Google and indeed found that this page is only one in the world, let alone
Europe, with this word. Leaving the neologism I tried DEEP and HULL and
found that it is a tank "containing 2.5 million litres of water and 87
tonnes of salt" and especially tantalizing "huge marine dinosaurs":
http://www.thedeep.co.uk/visit/index.php
At "The Deep" site I found the Google problem was that one of the UH Webbies
misspelled the word "SUBMARIUM" which although it has many Google hits was
also new to me.
I suspect that the appointed Hull assistants will enjoy grading your
students' papers. I wish I had someone to do that at St. John's for me!
I invite you to post your notice to another community I direct,
IMD-L of the AOM International Management Division. But please recraft your
notice so that it invites professors to recommend your doctoral program to
their promising students since the students themselves are less likely to be
members of IMD-L. You can join the fray of IMD-L via:
http://www.aom.pace.edu:81/guest/RemoteListSummary/imd_l
Since I am mentioning such sites, let me say that the site to join or leave
Mg-Ed-Dv is:
http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/CGI/wa.exe?SUBED1=mg-ed-dv&A=1
By the bye, don't put in the lines about your "apologizing" or "advert". I
felt they diminished your posting and in the case of the latter might
trigger spam filters. Indeed I have deleted them from your below message.
Your cybercolleague across the little deep,
Charles Wankel
