    Dear Charles,

the answer to your first question is that the posts are open to any
applicants. We do in fact have a number of applicants from the USA this
year, so clearly there are some graduates in the US who find these
appealing. I guess I had hoped that people who subscribe to Management
Education and Development would forward the e-mail on to graduates who
might be looking for a place to do a PhD. Thanks very much for
suggesting the alternative lists, which are not ones I am familiar with.

The Hull website home page has random images next to the 'ask a
student' text message, so it was rather unfortunate that the image you
got was a heel - I have had a ball, a pair of legs and a cycle, and a
smiling face in the past when I have logged on to the home page. Many
thanks for all the other helpful comments and I note that you are as
    sharp as ever ;-)

I do appreciate the tips, and I should say that I probably won't
benefit from having a GTA to mark my papers as they seem to prefer to
work with other staff!! Just a little joke here. If you do ever get a
chance to come visit Hull physically, The Deep is worth going to. The
scientists there are growing coral, which requires quite a long
    vision...

    all the best always,

    Wendy
