This note is to suggest an informal survey and discussion on the outlook for
enrollments in all management education programs for the next 3-5 years.
Colleagues around the country are suggesting that they anticipate declining
enrollments with a serious shortfall in September in some of their programs.

Perhaps a simple scale on your outlook of:
1-growth will continue at an acceptable rate
2-little or no growth, but little decline
    3-a gradual continued decline
4-a rapid decline (over 10% each year)

Developing a more sophisticated index by various programs would be
invaluable-and our list may be an ideal catalyst. Obviously comments on reasons for
    your perceptions would be
    very helpful.

Would you care to differentiate in your survey between on-ground and online
    colleges?

Our online colleges (I teach at 2) anticipate continued moderate growth.

    Thanks. Not yet.

One of the difficult issues, however, is measuring what market share
    growth is for on-line programs.

    Suggest you add a level:

    0 - rapid growth (over 10%/year)

This puts 2 - in the middle, @ little or no change.

Even if you don't expect anyone to respond at this level, 0, high growth. A lot of
people will only answer within the range you offer. If you don't offer an option, then
when you don't get any responses there, you don't know whether the respondents believed
    it wouldn't happen.

Also, you might request info on the type of school (on-line vs. 'traditional' being one
option) as you solicit responses. You may discover that different groups have
    different outlooks. Or not.

    Dear Chuck:

What is you definition of a "management education program"? I was not
aware there were any programs that taught educators how to teach
    management.
