I just returned from Vietnam and found that universities there
really want to hire full-time people. If you want to take on a visiting
position with normal teaching, Vietnam would open up lots of research
opportunities.
RMIT of Australia has a unit that is thriving in Vietnam. The main
campus is in Ho Chi Minh City. Its website is
www.rmit.edu.vn . The person
to contact is Michael Mann, "Founding President". He asked me to help
publicize positions there. His email is
michael-mann@rmit.edu.vn .
Telephone: +84-8-822-4992. You might mention that heard about it from me.
I think an even better opportunity would be to teach at the National
University Business School in Hanoi. Dean Binh really needs qualified
professors with credentials from leading business schools. Their website
is:
http://www.hsb.edu.vn/Deanmessage.htm
Dean Binh told me that the negotiable salary might seem low but the cost of
living is very low in Hanoi. Dean Binh will provide you with a nice
apartment that comes with a woman home support worker. Dean Binh will
provide all the contacts you would ever wish for to complete the kind of
research that will result in tier one articles. Yes, visiting there is the
Santa Monica Freeway to career success! Again, tell him you found out about
this from me.
Now, it is possible to go for two weeks to give management
development courses at Banking University. Hey, that's what I just did and
really liked it! The deal is you teach two courses (a full morning one and
a full afternoon one for five days of your week in Ho Chi Minh City and then
the same in the following week in Hanoi. It is really a lot but I enjoyed
working with the managers actually.) The students are middle and top
managers in every which industry. They reimburse you when you arrive for up
to $1000 of your round-trip airfare. They also provide you with
accommodation in okay hotels. (Instead I took $20/day towards rooms at
five-star hotels that I found deals for on expedia.com; $52 and $60 per
night; the Renaissance Riverside Hotel and the Hanoi Hilton Opera Hotel). I
was taken out for many lunches and provided with a lot of transportation
from here to there. They provided someone to adequately sort of lead me on
sightseeing in HCMC but in the North (they fly you up to Hanoi) I was
provided with a daylong Halong Bay excursion, much of it by boat and
including a tour of two humungous caves on an island.

It was an incredible experience. The Vice-Director in charge of recruiting
top-notch foreign professors for this Banking University program is Hoang
Thuy Nguyen. His email is
enquiries@bu.edu.vn . Telephone is
+84-8-8-216-112. Again, let him know you found out about it from me.
