"Surviving and Thriving at Smaller Schools" PDW
If you are a faculty member at a smaller, teaching-oriented school (or a
doctoral student who might like to work at one), I'd like to invite you to
a Professional Development Workshop at this year's Academy of Management
meetings titled "Surviving and Thriving at Smaller Schools." (By "smaller,
teaching-oriented school" I mean those public or private schools that do
not have the Carnegie 1 Research Institution designation.) This workshop
will provide practical counsel for faculty at these schools who balance
research and service expectations with relatively heavier teaching loads.
The workshop will also provide networking opportunities for faculty at
these schools.
The workshop will start Saturday afternoon and continue through Sunday
morning. The Saturday afternoon session will consist of several
mini-workshops addressing topics such as balancing expectations for
teaching and research, developing policies to promote research at smaller
schools, pursuing efficiency in teaching and service, developing research
networks, and countering potential stereotypes of smaller-school faculty
within the Academy of Management. The day will finish with interested
participants going out for "dinner on the town."
Sunday's session will include two mini-workshops. One of these workshops
will feature editors from Academy of Management Learning and Education, the
Journal of Management Education, Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative
Education, and Management Learning. At this session, you can find out more
about these journals and how to develop research for them. In the other
mini-workshop, you can meet and network with the officers of the Management
Education and Development (MED), Careers, and Gender and Diversity in
Organizations (GDO) divisions, and learn about potential opportunities
within these divisions.
Registration for these workshops is encouraged but not required. You can
register to attend the Saturday session, the Sunday session, or
both. There is no cost to attend these sessions. For registration
