Dear Dr. Martin,
I applaud your work in this area and hope you get many helpful suggestions.
We are a 10-library system spread out over almost 800 square miles. The old
paradigm was that every library would have the same look and services
offered. The new paradigm is local (each library) solutions & programs to
more quickly respond to the needs of the local community. Having moved
always as a group in the past, our library managers are ill-equipped to run
their libraries in this new paradigm. It will fall to me to train them on
innovation management skills. They have some good ideas and recognize many
needs in their communities, but they have no concept of how to put new
programs in place while living within their means. Good luck to you and
think about sending me your graduates. ;)
