Overview:
This professional development workshop will compare two exercises designed
to help students practice the formulation of strategy. One exercise places
students in the role of strategists who are constrained by environmental
conditions and who adapt to the complexity of the environment. The other
places students in a more empowered role of strategists who identify courses
of action and select environments in which to operate.
In addition to demonstrating these two exercises that give students the
opportunity to practice strategic formulation, the workshop examines the
philosophical underpinnings of each exercise. Workshop participants will
discuss the impact of both exercises on shaping student thinking about
strategic decision making.
