Special Issue: Exploring the Followership - Leadership Connection
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: December 15, 2005
The importance of leaders has tended to dominate accounts and explanations
for occurrences in organizations and society. However, leadership depends
heavily on the willingness of followers to accept direction and actively
contribute to formation and realization of a vision. Some scholars have
suggested that followership is such an integral part of leadership that
boundaries of the two roles frequently blur. This special issue invites
empirical and theoretical contributions that focus on the role of followers
in understanding leadership effectiveness. Some relevant topics might
include:
* Individual characteristics of followers and preference for
leadership style
* Measurement of followership
* The contribution of followership to organizational effectiveness
* Cognitive and affective aspects of follower - leader connection
* The role of spirituality/religion in follower-leader connection
* Relational demography of followers and leaders
* Organizational politics and followers
* Effects of organizational culture on follower-leaders connection
* Cross-cultural influences on followership
* Social exchange in the follower-leader connection
* Variations in follower expectations for leaders
* Perspectives of leaders regarding followers
* Followership-leadership in non-profit organizations
* Followers and organizational transformation
* Educating leaders about followership
