    Detailed Job Description:

    Harvard Business School (HBS) is now accepting applicants for a newly created role, Associate Director, C. Roland Christensen Center for Teaching and Learning. HBS has a deep and long-standing commitment to excellence in teaching and is renowned for the case method of instruction. The mission of the Center is to promote and support teaching excellence and innovation within the 200+ HBS faculty and to provide global leadership in case method teaching and participant-centered learning. Key areas of focus include assisting new faculty with their transition into the HBS classroom and assisting faculty at all levels in further development of their teaching and course creation skills.

    Working under the direction of the Center's Director, the Associate Director will: 1) coach, advise, and mentor HBS faculty on classroom practices and teaching effectiveness; 2) conduct and evaluate research on best practices with regard to pedagogy, faculty development, and use of technology in education; 3) design materials, workshops, and curricula for enhancing case method and discussion-based teaching competencies; 4) lead classes and workshops for business faculty and other education professionals; and 5) foster relationships with HBS faculty and administrators as well as teaching and learning professionals at other institutions.

    The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree, preferably from HBS. He/she will also have considerable experience with case method and discussion-based teaching, preferably in a professional school or graduate setting. The candidate should bring a solid understanding of pedagogy as well as uses of technology in education. A demonstrated ability in coaching and developing others is critical. He/she will bring proven consultative and interpersonal skills to the position and will have the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of an organization. Strong written and verbal communication skills and creative problem-solving abilities are essential.
