CALL for Paper Proposals
EXECUTIVE EDUCATION: Challenges and Opportunities
Two leading schools and one leading journal have joined forces to organize this conference. IMD, Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne and the Academy of Management Learning and Education invite academics, researchers, consultants and executives to join us for a two-day workshop in Lausanne, Switzerland in July 2006 to discuss the challenges and opportunities in executive education. We invite paper proposals that deal with all aspects of the theme: Executive Education: Challenges and Opportunities.
Topics We encourage proposal submissions that respond to the conference theme, including any of the following topics, which are illustrative only and by no means preferred or exhaustive. Clinical, practitioner and other non-traditional paper submissions are specifically encouraged. Examples of the types of issues papers could address include, but are by no means limited to, the following:
- What is the nature of the market for EE? What are successful strategies for the various players in this market (corporate education centers, business schools, certificate programs, etc)?
- How are the goals of EE different from the goals of traditional business education? Similarly, what are the pertinent differences between an executive audience and a more traditional one (e.g., MBA or part-time MBA audiences)?
- Which learning theories are best suited for addressing the needs of an executive audience? Does EE require more of an emotional, as opposed to a cognitive, involvement?
- Is there an optimal pedagogical framework for EE? Which styles, methods and techniquessimulations, role plays, coaching, etceteralead to superior executive comprehension, retention and translation into application?
- Is there an optimal process for assessing client needs and delivering EE? What are the proper means of assessing the success of EE?
- Is the skill profile for outstanding executive educators different from the profile for outstanding traditional management educators? Are faculty members who participate in EE more satisfied with their professional experience?
- Does participating in EE facilitate research, especially that which is directly relevant to the practitioner community?
The program will consist of invited keynotes, panel discussions on topics related to the theme of the conferences, as well as paper presentations submitted by participants. Authors of selected papers will be encouraged to submit their papers to the 2007 Special Issue of the AMLE.
