Dear Colleagues,

Can you please recommend a good textbook for an undergraduate course in Intercultural Management? This book should include some of the following topics: cultural differences, intercultural communication, negotiation strategies, conflict resolution, overview of expatriate issues (cultural and re-entry shocks, etc.), knowledge management and building trust across nations, etc.

Everyone's input will be sincerely appreciated.

    With best regards,

    Hello Vlad

    My standbys are :

Thomas, David C. (2002), Essentials of International Management: A cross-cultural perspective. Sage.

Adler, Nancy J. (2001), International Dimensions of Organizational Behavior (4th Edition) South-Western College Pub.

which cover the topics you mentioned below except building trust across nations (a vast and ambitious objective for international organisations!) . It would be interesting to discover other books / articles which address this last topic in an international management context.

    Best regards,

Hi Vlad, we've been looking for some time. I'm changing the course to be all self-written handouts and journal articles next term here.

A decent European-oriented book is Schneider and Barsoux, and a decent USA-oriented book is Gary P. Ferraro, "The Cultural Dimension of International Business". Few books actually get directly into specific cultural differences. My course handbook is attached. The handbook is fairly confusing. I didn't write it and haven't had time to revise it.

    Regards,
    Romie
