"Do What I Say Not What I Do:
Can Faculty "Cats" Be Herded Into Successful High Performing Teams?
(Session #131)
Saturday August 12, 2006
10:00 am -- 12:00 pm
Hyatt Regency
Spring Conference Room
Faculty Colleagues:
Have you worked in faculty teams at your university (face-to-face or virtually)?
Are you responsible for managing faculty teams or supporting faculty teams?
Have you been successful with these teams?
Does our success (or lack of) in working in teams get translated to our students?
Do you want to share your experiences?
Do you want to discuss methods that may assist the success of faculty teams?
Purpose/Goals:
Participants in this workshop will collaborate to develop an approach and set of techniques intended to strengthen faculty team knowledge and skills. The goal is that this may, in turn, be transferred to students. An assumption underpinning the scope and purpose of the workshop is that team performance of our students is dependent on exposure to faculty with the requisite knowledge and experience in teambuilding and teamwork. Among the faculty teambuilding experiences that may be explored are:
Design, development, and implementation of program-wide team knowledge and skills by faculty teams.
Team building techniques for virtual teams
Team-based course design and development.
Design and development of faculty team clinics to address student team problems.
Faculty mentoring of new faculty across disciplines.
Examples contributed by participants.
