Subject: [MG-ED-DV] New contribution to open educational content
"The Open University's commitment to broadening access to education is being
taken to another level with the launch of OpenLearn, its major new open
content initiative. The OpenLearn website will make educational resources
freely available on the internet, with state-of-the-art learning support and
collaboration tools to connect learners and educators.
The site - at link, right - is live from yesterday (Wednesday, October 25).
This £5.65 million project, generously supported by a grant from the William
and Flora Hewlett Foundation, will cover a full range of subjects including
business and management, at all study levels from access to postgraduate.
Available to learners and educators throughout the UK and worldwide, the
project will be of particular significance in The Open University's efforts
to widen access to hard-to-reach groups and tackle educational disadvantage
both within the developed and developing worlds."
For the BBC news story see
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/6071230.stm
To access the learning materials see
http://www.openlearn.open.ac.uk
There is also a companion site labspace which can be used to upload your own
materials or modify materials created by others.
All intellectual property on the site is managed under the creative commons
scheme (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.0/uk/).
There is currently about 900 hours of study material on the site. We aim to
add a similar quantity every three months for the next two years. We hope
others will contribute too.
Please make use of this resource, add to it, modify it - join us in the open
content endeavour and above all let us know what you make of it and how we
can improve what we are doing
best regards
Mark
