I was wondering if colleagues might be able to help me.

I've been tasked with designing a new leadership course for
undergraduates and I'm looking for a suitable textbook. As my audience
will include a lot of non-business students, I want to find a textbook
that has a generic, rather than a business or management, approach.

I've already discovered the excellent book by Shriberg, Shriberg and
Lloyd (which is a little too short for my needs) and the various books
by Grint (which are fantastic but at too high a level).

If anyone could point me in the direction of any suitable texts, I'd be
    really grateful.

    Jon,

I don't offer a text. I did do a synthesis of an extended conversation on
leadership held on this MG-ED-DV listserv.

It's a characterization of leaders and leadership, not recommendations on
    how to become one.

I've offered it to this list before. I'll send it to anyone who requests
    directly to me, at GaryL@Market-Engineering.com.

    Best,

    Gary

    Hi Jon,
I am about to teach an undergrad course in leadership and will be using:
Hughes, Ginnett, and Curphy. Leadership: Enhancing the Lessons of
Experience (New York, NY: Irwin, 2006). Fifth Edition

I have not used it before, but it seems promising. I can let you know how
it goes and would love to hear what other books you find.

Several years ago I developed an undergrad course in leadership- the
book I use is The Art of Leadership by Manning and Curtis. This book has
lots of wonderful self- evaluation exercises for students to com-plete.
This way they begin to assess their own leadership capabilities and
learn their strengths and weaknesses. I then supplement the class with
newspaper articles from the NY Times -- the articles are related to
leadership issues and challenges. Hope this helps! Johanna Bishop,
    Wilmington College
