[Hrdiv_net] [putting students into teams]

    Hi Steve,

I use teams quite frequently, and I like to make the
assignments randomly (few of us get to select our
coworkers). I simply take a pile of index cards and write
the numbers from 1 to 5 on them. If I want 5 teams I make
sure I have six sets of numbers in case someone adds the
class at the last minute. Then on the first day of class, I
distribute them randomly and have the students change their
seats so they sit with their team all semester (makes it
easier for class exercises if they don't have to move
regularly). Then I tell them to name their new teams based
on a common category (e.g. autos, animals, cartoon
characters, bands, etc) that varies by semester.

Alternatively, I have a friend who does something similar
with a deck of cards, but she uses teams comprised of 4
    people.

Take care, and I hope this helps.

    Best,
    Lisa
