Subject: Online workshop: Leadership, Innovation and Communities of Practice
Do you come from the world of business, higher education or training and have an interest in how communities of practice can support innovation? You may be interested in an online event we are running at the Open University.
The event will be supported by a group of world-class presenters: Etienne Wenger, Nigel Paine, Sarah Robinson, Sue Peters and Lesley Swinn who have significant practical experience of building and supporting communities of practice who will share their learning and understanding with delegates. This online workshop complements a face to face event being held at the Open University, in Milton Keynes UK on 8th October. (Should you wish to participate in the face-to-face event there are still a small number of places available and a booking form can be found on the site)
We hope you will the online event interesting and useful whether you are able to attend the face-to-face event or not. Participation in the online event is free. You can self register to participate on our workshop site at http://www.open.ac.uk/ldc08/
The 'Leadership, innovation and communities of practice' workshop is a virtual and real world event. The virtual online programme will take place between 1st and 15th October 2008 using a discussion forum on this site. The face-to-face event will take place at The Open University on Wednesday 8th October 2008. Following the face to face event, videos of speaker sessions and summaries of discussions will be available to stimulate further discussion online.
The workshop will bring together participants from the different worlds of higher education, business, and training to consider how communities of practice can foster innovation and learning in business; and to look at the kinds of leadership necessary to build and support such communities. On the website you can find a series of articles written by our presenters as a stimulus to discussion. A moderated forum provides a space to network with others and engage in conversation. Our speakers will be dropping in to join in the discussion thoughout the two weeks the event runs.
Both the online and face-to-face event are part of a series organized by the South East Leadership Academy, supported by the UK's South East Development Agency (SEEDA) and the Practice-based Professional Learning Centre (PBPL) a UK Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning based at The Open University.
This workshop is the sixth in a series bringing together leadership and innovation practitioners from to share ideas and best practice in leadership development and innovation. The workshops are highly interactive and participatory and aim to develop new ideas and encourage new collaborative partnerships.
