    When Apple leadership proved inadequate its stock dropped from 69 to 19 which, among other factors, triggered the return of Steve Jobs whereupon it topped 180.
     
    The decline of their stock price unmasked ENRON malfeasance.
     
    In many other instances shareholders voted with their Sell orders.
     
    Warren Buffet's criteria for investing is pretty clear about the behaviors and implications of values of the executives.
     
    What other mechanism governs corporations as adequately?
     
    Certainly not federal government oversight.  If that worked the US Postal Service would not be a multi-billion dollar drain of the public good while FedEx, UPS, etc. prosper.
