Topic – Transforming your career in government
Too often, managers of people have been allowed to drift into such command and control styles. The new threat is that this neglect of leadership by managers will infect the new millennial workers full engagement in their work. Recent data suggest that the leadership of people is not adequate work engaging millennial employees (Espinoza, Ukleja, & Rusch, 2010). We cannot afford to lose the creativity and other contributions of this generation as a result of less than friendly managerial climates. This session will offer insights into how to make our organizations more engaging and enriching not only for millennials but for other employees in this new and constantly changing work environment.
Biography – Dr. George Graen
Dr. George Grean has written and published 8 books, over 150 chapters and research articles on Applied Psychology and has authored one of the leading theories of research-based team leaderships. Most recently Dr. Graen has written the definitive chapters on the latest update of his Leadership Motivated Excellence (LMX) theory of team leadership and on the newest overview of promising future research approaches to team leadership in the forthcoming Oxford University Press, Handbook of Leadership (2012). Dr. Graen was Professor of Psychology, University of Illinois, 1967-1977, University of Cincinnati, 1977-1997, and Director, Center for Strategic Management Studies 1990-Present. He has done research and consulting in China, Hong Kong, Japan and America.
