    Salisbury University (SU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Perdue School of Business. 

     

    About the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Perdue</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">School</st1:placetype></st1:place>:  The Perdue School of Business was established in 1986 through a private endowment.  The School has four academic Departments:  Accounting and Legal Studies, Economics and Finance, Information and Decision Sciences, and Marketing and Management and will break ground on its new $50 million building in Fall, 2009.  With 54 full-time faculty and over 1700 declared majors, the Perdue School offers undergraduate degrees in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Management Information Systems and Marketing, plus Business Administration with choices of an International Business concentration, an Economics track or an Individualized track.  In addition, the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Perdue</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">School</st1:placetype></st1:place> offers its MBA at two locations that have been redesigned to better serve our market.  All programs are accredited by the AACSB.

     

    About the University:  Founded in 1925, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Salisbury</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype></st1:place> is a regional, comprehensive institution, one of 13 that comprise the University System of Maryland.  SU is located on <st1:state w:st="on">Maryland</st1:state>'s scenic Lower Eastern Shore, close to ocean beaches and the Chesapeake Bay, and two to three hours from the metropolitan areas of <st1:state w:st="on">Washington</st1:state>, <st1:city w:st="on">Baltimore</st1:city>, <st1:city w:st="on">Philadelphia</st1:city> and <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Norfolk</st1:city></st1:place>.  SU offers 55 undergraduate majors and master's programs in the liberal arts, science and technology, education, nursing, social work and the business disciplines.  SU's four schools are endowed:  the Perdue School of Business, the Henson School of Science and Technology, the Fulton School of Liberal Arts, and the Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies.  SU has been cited nationally as one of the top 10 public regional universities in the North according to U.S. News and World Report, and also has been recognized by the Princeton Review and Kiplinger's magazine.  With a student population of approximately 7,600, SU has a full-time faculty of 363.

     

    Responsibilities:  The Dean provides leadership for the prestigious, rapidly growing Perdue School of Business.  In addition to representing the School to external constituencies, the Dean is the chief academic, administrative, and financial officer of the School, and reports directly to the Provost.  The Dean will build partnerships with other institutions, businesses, and individuals regionally, nationally, and internationally to promote economic development and ensure the relevancy of <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Perdue</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">School</st1:placetype></st1:place> programs.  The Dean is responsible for faculty and staff supervision and development, strategic budget planning and execution, and, importantly, fund-raising, as the University is engaged in a major capital campaign.  The Dean promotes high standards in both the academic programs and outreach efforts of the School.  The Dean employs strategies that further the diversity goals of the School and <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Salisbury</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype></st1:place>.

     

     

     

     

     

    Qualifications:  The University seeks an energetic, forward-thinking individual, preferably someone with a demonstrated record of success in a business school as both a faculty member and administrator.  While the successful candidate likely will have an earned doctorate in one of the academic disciplines represented in the Perdue School, candidates not possessing a doctorate, but who clearly demonstrate a strong record of success in business and an understanding of academia, are encouraged to apply. Experience working with businesses and constituencies off-campus is highly desirable.
