  • 1.  Help Us Build the MED Teaching Inspiration Hub

    Posted 6 days ago

    Dear MED Colleagues,

The Teaching & Education Committee is launching a Teaching Inspiration Hub-a curated, online collection of practical teaching resources created by and for the MED community.

We invite MED members to share teaching materials, practices, or ideas that have worked well in their classes. Contributions do not need to be polished or published; brief descriptions, partial materials, links, or works-in-progress are all welcome.

In particular, we hope to gather resources that reflect a range of approaches, including:

What's hot: teaching and educational practices responding to current conversations (AI, for instance)

What's bold: departures from convention and against-the-grain approaches

What's seasoned: tried-and-true methods refined through experience

What's brewing: experiments in progress, including gaps we haven't yet addressed

Examples of contributions include syllabi or syllabus sections, in-class activities or exercises, assignments or projects, experiential learning designs, uses of AI tools in teaching, case facilitation approaches, online or hybrid teaching practices, and inclusive teaching strategies.

Resources will be organized by user type and resource type, lightly curated by the Teaching & Education Committee, and clearly attributed to contributors (with an option to remain anonymous). Contributions may also be highlighted in MED communications and can be listed as service to the division.

If you would like to contribute, please complete this short submission form (approximately 3–5 minutes):

    https://forms.gle/j48FNfVFZpunpo9k9

Thank you for helping us build a shared teaching resource that reflects the collective expertise and generosity of the MED community.

    Dear Professor McCarthy,

A possible inclusion in the collection of practical teaching materials is my forthcoming book, "Dare to Think Differently," being published on February 24th. It reports the findings of over 150 in depth personal interviews with highly successful executives and describes their shared ways of thinking while addressing especially challenging problems. The book is intended for executives. This also makes it very appropriate for aspiring future executives such as students in undergraduate, graduate, and executive education programs.

The book doesn't provide a formula for decision making. It does present six core guidelines for thinking about decisions. These practices are reinforced by relevant academic research findings. I call the use of these guidelines being "open-minded."  (It is somewhat akin to "critical thinking.")

An "Instructor's Guide" is available on the book page of my firm's website:  https://www.olsonzaltman.com/dare-to-think-differently Click to follow link." data-outlook-id="5763a250-15cb-43d6-a175-f5fa87049f4b" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">https://www.olsonzaltman.com/dare-to-think-differently

I do hope you'll consider the book. I'm happy to respond to Hub member questions or offer suggestions to them.

    Sincerely, Jerry
