A Message from the MED Division Chair 2018-19

I am a long-time member of MED division – since being befriended at my first conference by members of this warm and welcoming community.

As Chair for this year, I very much want to continue to support that warm and welcoming feeling. Part of that comes from our diversity – we are a very international division, with exciting plans for an international ‘ambassador’ programme for enthusiastic MED members. Our diversity also rests in our range of approaches to research and scholarship; we have no interest in ‘paradigm wars’ – good work from any tradition, that advances the scholarship of management education, is welcome in our division. And most Academy members can find a home with us even if their research focusses on another domain, because of our long history of supporting the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Over the years I have found the division to be a rich and inspiring source of the latest ideas – ideas that can help to advance theory and share innovative practice.

If you too are a long-time member of MED reading this welcome, then I am probably ‘preaching to the choir’! But if you are new to MED, I hope that you will feel welcome to join us, perhaps as a professional development workshop (PDW) participant or facilitator at the conference, or as a paper author, or as a reviewer, or just sharing insights and ideas informally at one of our social events. Or perhaps all of these! You will always be welcome.

 Paul.
